22 February 2019
The security forces of the dictatorial regime in Sudan arrested 25 opposition leaders and activists yesterday, 21st February 2019, as they prepared to join a protest march to the presidential palace in Khartoum calling for the dictator Omar al-Bashir to step down. Among the detainees is Comrade Mohamed Mokhtar al-Khatib, the Secretary of the Sudanese Communist Party.
The peaceful protesters were viciously attacked by the security forces and used tear gas to disperse them. The opposition leaders and figures were arrested near Farooq Mosque, and included representatives of several political parties and the Professionals’ Association. While six of them were later released, mainly from the Umma Party, the rest of them including Comrade al-Khatib, are still in detention.
Hundreds of protesters and activists are still languishing in the prisons and detention centres of the regime under harsh and inhumane conditions. They include 15 members of the Central Committee of the Sudanese Communist Party and dozens of its cadres and members.
The mass protest movement against the dictatorial regime, which started three months ago, on 19th December 2018, has escalated in recent weeks and spread to all major cities and towns.
We call upon fraternal parties to raise their voices in strong condemnation of the bloody repression by al-Bashir’s regime and its security forces and to support the just demands of the Sudanese people and their peaceful protest movement.
Call for the immediate release of Comrade Mohamed Mokhtar al-Khatib and the detained opposition leaders and figures.

What is happening in Venezuela is an internal matter that concerns only its own people, and it is necessary to respect the legitimacy and the results of the elections held in accordance with the Constitution and the re-election of President Nicolas Maduro. Otherwise, chaos will prevail in international relations and regimes would be imposed on peoples against their free will, as has happened several times in Latin America and elsewhere in the world, including the Middle East.
The grave interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela, in particular what the Trump administration has declared unambiguously, constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, and of the national sovereignty and independence of this country, and threatens to abolish all democratic rights and ignite a civil war that may engulf the entire region
The policy of foreign intervention, whatever its form, the most blatant being the military form and encouraging and supporting coups, will not bring security and stability nor promised democracy, as evidenced by the experiences of the recent and distant past, including our experiences in Iraq. This policy also constitutes a real obstacle to development and progress, in addition to the loss of life and immense destruction.
While strongly condemning the attempts to impose tutelage on the state of Venezuela, we express solidarity with its people and their national and progressive forces, and with their right to determine the affairs and destiny of their country and preserve its sovereignty, independent decision and free choices.

- Mass demonstration in central Khartoum.
- Security forces prevent march from reaching Republican Palace
- 5 people killed and more than 80 injured, some seriously
- Call for the release of all political detainees, including five members of the Sudanese CP’s Central Committee
26 December 2018
Yesterday the 25th of December was the day Khartoum became the centre of the mass protest actions. The protest march called by the professional bodies turned into a great mass demonstration which started at 1pm and continued late into the night. The masses were denied reaching their target of presenting their memorandum to Albashir by the heavy presence of armed security forces around the Republican Palace.
The demonstration which started in central Khartoum, soon spread to other residential areas around the capital. The battles between the demonstrators and the security forces moved from the main roads to the streets and lanes of the capital.
The security forces, militias and thugs of the regime used excessive force causing the death of more than five innocent people, injuring more than 80 persons, some very seriously, and detaining scores of protesters.
The Secretariat of the party’s Central Committee issued two appeals during the course of the day. The first appeal called for participation in the protest march, and the second one, issued midway through the continuation of the demonstrations, called for the unity of the people in the struggle to topple the regime.
A meeting of the National Forces for Consensus, the opposition alliance, took place at the headquarters of the Sudanese Communist Party. The meeting resolved to continue the fight to the end. It, furthermore, agreed to call for a broader meeting where representatives of the democratic trade unionists, youth, women, political parties and patriotic leaders are expected to participate.
The Secretariat of the Central Committee calls on all fraternal parties to intensify their support initiatives as the struggle of our people is reaching higher levels.
Call for the immediate release of all political detainees including comrades Masoud Ali, Hanadi Fadl, Tariq abdul-Majeed, and Dr Sied Ahmed Alkhateeb and Dr Amal Gaberalla, all members of the party’s Central Committee.

- Mass demonstrations continue against the dictatorial regime
- Repression and arrests escalate
- Security forces attack headquarters of Sudanese CP and kidnap a member of its Political Bureau, Comrade Masoud Ali
24 December 2018
For the fifth day running the mass demonstrations continue unabated. Yesterday evening, Sunday the 23rd December, witnessed one of the largest peaceful demonstrations which took place in Omdurman after a major football game.
The demonstration which continued till the early hours of Monday, was violently repressed. The security forces resorted to the use of excessive force, killing at least seven demonstrators and injuring over 200 protesters, some seriously.
The mass actions were not limited to the capital but spread all over the country. Yesterday the mass actions took place in cities and towns in the Darfour region and Kordufan. At the same time people living in cities like Atbara in the north, Portsudan in the East and Madani in Algazera, continue to demonstrate daily, despite the repression, detention and torture.
It is difficult to give an exact number of those who were cowardly killed or detained, because at the time of reporting the confrontation between the masses and the security forces has resumed in the capital.
A very serious development took place yesterday. In an unprecedented act of violence armed gangs of the security forces forced their way and broke into the Sudanese CP headquarters and kidnapped comrade Masoud Ali, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Party organization in the capital. His whereabouts are unknown and his safety is in real danger. It is top priority to demand his immediate release.
