You will not Silence the Voice of Students
20 June 2023
We have received the decree issued by the Ministry of Higher Education to prevent the work of our Union within all universities, and to pursue and prosecute our fellow activists in the Union, for fear that the Union’s activities would subsequently be exploited to negatively affect the academic reputation and the progress of the educational process, according to the decree.
We express our strong disapproval and rejection of this repressive decision, which represents a clear suppression of student and academic freedoms and carries with it a clear and systematic targeting of the voice of students and their Union. It is aimed at covering up the failure and corruption of successive administrations, which has led the educational process to collapse, and implementing further plans and decisions that are destructive to education in our country.
What raises our astonishment and condemnation more is the referral of the follow-up to this decision to the offices of the security services at the university. This is an unacceptable police measure and an explicit violation of the Higher Education Law, which prohibits the presence of any military manifestations on campus.
We would like to state that the academic reputation was humiliated when sectarian and ethnic power-sharing was adopted as a criterion for selecting university administrators at the expense of professional competence and integrity. The ruling forces went further in crushing this reputation when the Certificate Equivalency Law was passed, which legitimized thousands of forged certificates obtained outside Iraq, allowing their holders to later assume high positions in the state. The Ministry has continued in insulting the academic reputation, and it ignores the practices of financiers of private colleges and universities that are offensive to students and academics alike.
This decision has come at a time when the Ministry turns a blind eye to the practices of the so-called “volunteer student teams”, that are affiliated with ruling parties, and facilitates their work. It is allowing them to carry out the most heinous sectarian and political activities and the blackmail of professional educational cadres.
Accordingly, we call on the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to withdraw this repressive decision and to make an official apology to our Union for the grave abuse it caused to the history of the first student organization in Iraq. We also hold the Ministry responsible for the security and safety of our colleagues and cadres.
We, in the General Union of Students in the Republic of Iraq, stress that these repressive practices will not undermine our resolve to continue the march of the Union that extends back over 75 years of struggle, and to continue our activities that are aimed at securing a free student life and a better future.
In the same context, we extend our call and appeal to all friendly unions, organizations and trade unions, to condemn this decision which constitutes a grave violation of student and academic freedoms, as it is part of a series of measures targeting public freedoms that are constitutionally and legally guaranteed, and to stand firmly against these practices.
Long live the General Union of Students in the Republic of Iraq
Long live the struggles of the Iraqi student movement

26 May 2023
The Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Sudanese Communist Party has issued the following Urgent Press Release: As the country is suffering the continuation and escalation of this senseless war, fully armed military groups belonging to the Rapid Support Forces stormed and occupied the headquarters of the Sudanese Communist Party in Khartoum yesterday afternoon, 25 May 2023. This aggressive force broke down the doors of all offices and halls in the party’s HQ, and carried out extensive acts of vandalism, damage, and looting of all the contents and property of the place. These forces are still present in the party HQ until now, using it as their headquarters. We condemn this barbaric and cowardly act in the strongest terms, and we demand that these unbridled forces immediately evacuate the main headquarters of the party and end their occupation of it. The offices of political parties and citizens' homes are not battlefields. We hold the Rapid Support Forces fully responsible for all the damages and missing contents that resulted from this barbaric act, and we will take all legal measures in the face of this attack. The operations of storming residential homes and terrorizing their occupants, as well as the use of public facilities such as hospitals as headquarters for their presence, have become frequent scenes in this senseless war. They constitute flagrant violations of the sanctities of defenceless citizens and of international laws and norms even in times of war. However, we consider that the attack on the headquarters of political parties and their occupation and conversion into military barracks constitutes a dangerous escalation in the course of this disastrous war. It is an indication of the exploitation by the warring parties of the conditions of widespread security chaos to target and attack the positions of the democratic movement and all the forces rejecting and opposing the war, including the Resistance Committees, trade unions, and political and patriotic forces. Such attacks and others will not discourage the Sudanese Communist Party from standing in the front lines with the masses of the Sudanese people and their patriotic forces, demanding an end to the war and the prosecution of and holding to account all parties that have contributed to igniting it.

A Statement to the Sudanese People
The intense violent military clash between the generals of the Security Committee and their forces is exposing the masses of our people to danger and recklessness of the counter-revolutionary forces' ambitions and to more bloodshed.
This clash is a result of the deviation of the military and civil forces that assumed the leadership and rule of the country since the beginning of the revolution in April 2019.
The victims of the continuing violence and counter-violence are the people who have been striving for the continuation of the Revolution and achieving full democratic civil power. The way back to normal life begins with an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, the departure of armies and militias from the cities and villages, and keeping them far from citizens’ gatherings in towns and rural areas.
What is happening now is a continuation of the struggle over power and the country's wealth, encouraged by some foreign powers, and being carried out by armed groups subservient to these foreign powers. These bloody clashes and their continuation is what our Party has been warning about, and they are spreading confusion and fear among citizens.
In this context, the Communist Party considers it necessary to expedite the dissolution of all militias, collecting the weapons deployed in cities and rural areas, and rebuilding a unified professional national army.
The Sudanese Communist Party calls for unity to demand an immediate ceasefire, the exit of armies and militias from cities, and to save the country from the bloody infighting among the generals.
The unity of our people, all the patriotic forces, the Forces for Radical Change and the Resistance Committees in support of the goals of the Revolution and restoring peace, security and stability is an urgent task. It is the only basis to end the current crisis, reclaim the Revolution and establish the power of the people.
Freedom, Peace, Justice and Civil State is the Choice of the People
In this context, the Communist Party calls upon our people to protect the neighbourhoods and residential areas.
The Sudanese Communist Party also calls upon the peoples of the world and the democratic and Communist forces to raise the banners of solidarity with the struggle of the Sudanese people and to restrain the forces hostile to the glorious December Revolution.
